Etsy Offsite Ads explained

Published August 3, 2026

Quick answer

Offsite Ads charge 15% of the order if you made under $10,000 on Etsy in the last 12 months, or 12% if you made more. Sellers under the threshold can opt out; above it participation is mandatory. The fee only applies when a sale comes from an Etsy-purchased ad, but on those orders it is usually the largest single cost.

What an ad-driven sale actually costs

Stack the fees and the picture changes. A normal Etsy sale runs about 10-11% once you include the 6.5% transaction fee, 3% + $0.25 processing and the $0.20 listing fee. Add a 15% Offsite Ads fee and you are handing over roughly a quarter of the order. On thin-margin products that can turn a profitable sale into a loss.

The opt-out decision

If you are under $10,000 a year you can switch Offsite Ads off entirely. Whether you should depends on margin: if your net margin after normal fees is comfortably above 15%, the ads are buying you customers you would not otherwise reach and are probably worth keeping. If your margin is thin, opting out protects you from sales that cost more than they earn.

Why crossing $10,000 changes the maths

Above $10,000 in annual Etsy revenue the fee drops to 12% but becomes mandatory. You lose the choice, though at a lower rate. Sellers approaching that threshold sometimes forget the trade-off runs both ways: the rate improves, the option disappears.

Frequently asked questions

Can I turn off Etsy Offsite Ads?

Only if you made under $10,000 on Etsy in the previous 12 months. Above that threshold participation is mandatory, although the fee drops from 15% to 12%.

Does the Offsite Ads fee apply to every sale?

No, only to orders that come through an ad Etsy paid for. Organic sales and repeat customers who find you directly are unaffected.

Is the Offsite Ads fee charged on shipping too?

It is calculated on the order total, which includes what the buyer pays for shipping, in the same way as the standard transaction fee.
