The mistake most sellers make
eBay's final value fee applies to what the buyer pays in total, not just the item price. Charge $80 for the item and $20 for shipping and you are billed on the full $100, so "free shipping" priced into the item costs you exactly the same fee either way. Sellers who budget fees against the item price alone consistently under-estimate what they owe.
